Realising and Sharing the Invictus Spirit – The IGF Conversation

The inaugural Invictus Games Foundation Conversation took place on the 13th May, replacing what would have been a conference held in the Netherlands as part of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.

Presented by international speakers on the topic of realising and sharing the Invictus Spirit, the Conversation brought together hundreds of attendees drawn from over 18 different countries and was supported by Invictus Games Foundation sponsors: Ascot Rehab, Fisher House Foundation, and ISPS Handa.

Below you can view links to the various slides, as well as a recording of the full webinar to watch at your own leisure.

The opening sequence featured speeches from our CEO Dominic Reid; our Patron, The Duke of Sussex: Tony Abbott, former Prime Minister of Australia and ISPS Handa Patron; Ank Bijleveld–Schouten, Minister of Defence for the Netherlands; and Mart de Kruif, Chair of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.

The first session then featured a series of updates and content from across the Invictus Games participating nations, sharing their team efforts and focus under Covid19 lockdown – from Team Australia to Team USA.

Session Two focused on considering how best to record and articulate the impact and genuine effect delivered by the Invictus Games so that ongoing support can be secured, both moral and financial.

Session Three considered the importance and value of resilience in contemporary society, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, including enabling WIS personnel to regain and retain a ‘sense of purpose’ and the central role of family and friends in the path to recovery and rehabilitation.

One comment from the post-webinar survey said that it was “great to bring the community together virtually under the circumstances. It is important to build momentum in the care and support of our ill & injured members. They deserve our gratitude and expert guidance as they continue their journeys beyond service.”

Work is developing at the Invictus Games Foundation for future Conversations.
