Prince Harry Writes Foreword for UNCONQUERABLE: The Invictus Spirt by Boris Starling

Published to coincide with the third Invictus Games in Toronto, Unconquerable: The Invictus Spirit shares stories of the wounded, injured and sick servicemen and woman who have become competitors in the international multisport event founded by Prince Harry. Their accounts will stun, inspire and give courage.

The Invictus Games are about fighting spirit and the power of sport to change lives. Although fiercely competitive, its main intention is to be a milestone on the road to recovery. Making the starting line is an immeasurable achievement rather than the order in which you cross the finishing line. Who wins which medal is almost irrelevant because everyone who competes has gone through some version of hell to get there. You will see no comparing or grading of afflictions; Stephen with his post-traumatic stress, Maurilla with her leg injury, Josh with his three amputated limbs and Mary with her multiple sclerosis.

It is impossible not to feel humbled and awestruck at the astonishing resilience of the human spirit when you see someone swimming and rowing with one limb, firing an arrow with their teeth or overcoming anxiety so severe that they could not leave their house. None were what they had once been, but had found a new normal. The Invictus Games have shown that ‘life- changing’ can mean just that – ‘change’ scented with overtones of freshness and positivity.

Boris Starling is an award-winning novelist, screenwriter and journalist.

The book will be available to purchase from 21st September 2017 from http://smarturl.it/Unconquerable
