Our Patron practices his Dutch ahead of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020

In advance of this year’s Invictus Games The Hague 2020, our Patron, The Duke of Sussex, spoke with members of the host country’s team to practice Dutch and prepare for the Games. Click here to watch the video!

Jelle van der Steen, Wouter Bakker, Fenna Geugjes, and Alina Zoet will all represent The Netherlands during The Games, which will take place from April 16-22 this year.

The Duke was inspired to start the Games after witnessing first-hand how the power of sport can help wounded servicemen and women in their recovery – physically, psychologically and socially. The Games harness the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country.

Originally scheduled for 2020, the fifth Invictus Games will be hosted by The Hague in The Netherlands. Previously, the Invictus Games have been held in Sydney (2018), Toronto (2017), Orlando (2016), and London (2014).

The Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023 will take place in Germany next year.

This year’s event will bring together more than 500 competitors from 20 nations to compete in a series of adaptive sports, like archery, cycling, swimming, and wheelchair basketball. For more information about Invictus Games The Hague 2020, please visit www.invictusgames2020.nl.

As we all prepare for The Games, our thoughts are with Team Ukraine, as well as their friends and family. We know many of them are directly involved in the conflict, and as the news first broke, the Invictus Games Foundation offered support.
The team members, competitors, and management all chose to stay.
