Invictus Games 2018

New grant to support our work with wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women

We are thrilled to announce that the Veteran’s Foundation has recently issued a grant to the Invictus Games Foundation to further the support of wounded, injured and sick (WIS) armed forces personnel, serving or veteran.

The grant from the Veterans’ Foundation will help the Invictus Games Foundation to build a virtual community for WIS service personnel to have a safe and secure space to support one another. It will also help them to provide further opportunities for members of the WIS community, outside of Games time, which support their personal recovery and rehabilitation journey.

The existing virtual community noticeboard has been hugely successful in providing much needed opportunities for the WIS to continue their recovery as evidenced by Luke:

UK Team Competitor Luke was paralysed from the chest down in a motorcycle crash in 1996 while serving in the RAF Regiment. He was extremely fortunate to survive his injuries and wasn’t expected to live through the night after the crash. 20 years later represented his country at the Invictus Games Orlando 2016 and again in Toronto 2017.

“Since competing at the Invictus Games Orlando 2016 and then being involved with the Foundation through the WIS Noticeboard I’ve had a number of great opportunities. Some motivational speaking opportunities at prisons and schools, a gala performance at the Bat Out of Hell musical and I’m currently training to do the London Marathon. Through the Noticeboard I’ve been involved in Sports for Schools, a charity that aims to inspire primary school children to be more active. This is by far the most fulfilling and fun of the opportunities that I’ve had and I’m extremely thank you for it. I’m helping to education young people and, hopefully, make a difference.”

This grant from the Veteran’s Foundation will go towards developing the noticeboard further so it can provide greater support and more opportunities for members of the WIS community across multiple nations including, but not limited to, the nineteen that currently take part in the Invictus Games.
